The trace of the MOREAU family in Chablis dated back at the beginning of the 19th century with the coming in 1814 of Joseph MOREAU, native of Montbard (Côte d'Or) and who was a cooper.

He married Olympe DUCARD, daughter of a winegrower and wine-merchant in Chablis, who brought in her dowry vineyards in the Chablis appellation. This wedding was the source of what the Moreau family represents today. But it is the marriage of Alexandre, son of Jean-Joseph and Olympe, with Marie RIOTTE which sealed for ever the destiny of the Moreau family with the one of Chablis.
Indeed the newly-married woman brought the Chablis 1er Cru Vaillons and part of the Grands Crus including the famous Chablis Grand Cru Les Clos which are still owned by the family.
